Zirconium Screws, Fasteners and Fixings

A silver-grey metal, Zirconium is highly resistant to corrosion and is unsurprisingly found in alloys that can be found in piping, fittings, and heat exchangers.

Zirconium Screws and Fasteners

Zirconium fasteners are most known for their resistance to some of the harshest environments, including hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, formic acid, and nitric acid. It is also ideal for use in the nuclear power industry and it is superconductive at lower temperatures which means it’s ideal for super magnets. The nuclear industry utilises zirconium fasteners due to the materials inability to absorb neutrons.

The metal is also resistant to temperatures well above boiling point and at acid concentrations up to 70%.

There are some instances in which zirconium is not recommended for use, however. Ferric or cupric chlorides can decrease the corrosion resistance of a zirconium fastener due to the oxidisation they cause.

Used in a number of applications, it has been used for decades in dye manufacturing, as well as finding uses in chemical processing.

We are able to provide zirconium washers from M2 to M4 as standard, and zirconium nuts in sizes from M2 to M6. Specials can be made too order.

If you require more information or would like to order a fixing in Zirconium, please contact us.
