Silicon Bronze Fasteners
Silicon Bronze Fasteners are more suited to extreme environments than standard Brass components as they offer better corrosion resistance to a wide range of substances. Silicon Bronze is a decorative, non-magnetic, and electrically conductive alloy – primarily composed of around 94-96% Copper and 0.5-6% Silicon. Most alloy compositions include small quantities of other elements such as Tin, Manganese, Iron and Zinc. These fasteners are typically supplied in:
Silicon Bronze 651:
Otherwise known as “Low Silicon Bronze B” or C65100, this alloy has a low Silicon content of 0.8-2%. Silicon Bronze 651 hosts moderate strength and high thermal conductivity, with a relatively high melting point of 1030°C. It also provides good corrosion resistance to freshwater and saltwater – an ideal choice for marine environments both above and below the surface.
Silicon Bronze 655:
“High Silicon Bronze A” or C65500 shares most of the characteristics provided by Silicon Bronze 651, with the major difference being its 2.8-3.8% Silicon content. This provides additional strength and corrosion resistance to a variety of acids, alkalis, and organic chemicals – great for chemical processing applications. However, this does reduce its conductivity and melting point to roughly 970°C.
