Knurled Captive Shouldered Thumb Screws are a variant of the thumb screw to DIN 464 standard but instead host a reduced thread, or unthreaded portion, below the head of the fastener.
They can be used alongside Threaded Captive Washers to create a self-retaining fastener that cannot be fully removed from its housing.
Intended for easy installation and removal by hand, these components host a large head diameter with knurling around the edge to provide an ergonomic grip. Slotted Knurled Captive Shouldered Thumb Screws are also available, designed for use with a slotted screwdriver.
These fasteners are required by EU law on various pieces of machinery and safety equipment – often used for fastening captive panels on industrial machines.
Knurled Reduced Thread Captive Thumb Screws (DIN 464) are manufactured from A1 / 303 Stainless Steel as standard. Non-standard materials are available to order such as Titanium and Aluminium.
Available at Fastenright in thread sizes M3 to M10 as standard, and lengths from 4mm to 30mm. Optional thread locking patches can also be supplied for increased vibration resistance.
Non-standard sizes, materials and finishes are available to order as specials, including small volume manufacture, modifications and bespoke parts made to drawings. Minimum order quantities apply.
