What are ACME threaded rods?

ACME threaded rods (or ACME threaded bars) are fully threaded fasteners with a 29° trapezoidal thread profile, engineered to convert rotary motion into linear motion. Commonly used as lead screws or power transmission screws, they’re found in equipment such as lathes, CNC machinery, and other mechanical drive systems.

The unique thread form offers high strength, durability, and smooth operation under heavy loads, making it suitable for precise motion control and applications requiring significant torque.

Unlike trapezoidal threaded rods, which use a 30° thread angle, ACME rods feature a 29° angle and a thread height half the pitch. This geometry enhances load capacity, wear resistance, and service life, especially when paired with hexagon ACME threaded nuts or ACME connector nuts.

What sizes and materials are ACME threaded bars available in?

We supply ACME threaded rods in outer diameters ranging from ¼″ to 2½″, with 4 to 16 turns per inch to suit a wide range of mechanical and industrial applications. They are manufactured in Grade 2 Steel, Grade B7 Steel, A2 (304) Stainless Steel and A4 (316) Stainless Steel.

Custom ACME threaded rods can also be produced to order, including special sizes, alternative materials, and unique finishes, with bespoke components made to customer drawings. Minimum order quantities apply.
